These
arms were assumed on 30th
June 2007 upon the
armiger’s retirement after
over twenty years of
distinguished service to
God and Country.
The Gules of the first and
fourth quarters was chosen
to signify military
strength; the Azure for
loyalty to country and
purpose. The Sable of the
cannonballs (gunstones in
heraldic blazon)
represents constancy and
grief for lost brothers
and sisters; there being
six in number which
honours the battalion call
sign of “Six Renegades”.
During his long service,
the armiger was assigned
to the protection of the
President of the United
States and the defence of
the NCR (National Capital
Region), defence of
Baghdad and other cities
in other countries; the
lion represents the
dauntless courage,
bravery, strength,
ferocity and valour for
which the armiger was
awarded the Meritorious
Service Medal citing the
action of saving eleven
lives in combat operations
in Abu-Graib in 2004.
The axe represents over
twenty plus years of
service to country as a
devoted soldier, serving
on multiple campaigns and
combat tours; the cannon
balls, as well as alluding
to the battalion call
sign, also represent
having endured multiple
encounters with artillery
and emerging alive; the
sheaf of wheat represents
the harvest of one's hopes
having been secured with
the propagation of future
generations. The armoured
arm which envelopes the
whole achievement
represents qualities of
leadership.
The armiger chose to have
the mantling depicted in
Azure and Argent, the
colours of heraldic Vair
which represents the fur
of a squirrel.
The motto, Ut Sciant Pacem
Colimus, may be
paraphrased as We serve so
that other will know
peace. |
