The colours of the arms, Azure and Argent, are based upon the tinctures of the arms of the Lyttons of Knebworth viz: Ermine on a chief indented Azure, three ducal crowns Or. The two gold spur-revels represent combat service in the United States Cavalry, and a compass rose represents proficiency in land navigation.

The crow speaking represents crafty leadership in war and vigilance over friends.

The crest of an armored arm with a lance represents military leadership. The arm holds a tilting spear with a pennon in the colours of the US Cavalry, representing company command. The arm emerges from a thorny bramble of blackberries, which are common in the woods of the armiger’s home state.

The motto means "Perseverance and Daring".
