The armorial bearings
                                              of Canaan Keesee

The armiger and his mother were both born in the summer and their shared zodiac sign is Leo which led to the use of lion motifs being incorporated into many aspects of their lives, whether it be a lion-head plaque on the front door of the childhood home, a lion being inscribed on the armiger’s High School class ring, or pictures and statuary of, or including, lions decorating the walls of their home.

The wolves reference the fact that the armiger’s father has owned German Shepherds throughout his life, and recently acquired two, a male, Kairo, and a female, Kita; both have earned titles from the American Kennel Club, with Kita competing in Fast Cat races and Dock Diving while Kairo has earned titles in obedience and trick dog competitions. Kita was named the Fastest German Shepherd Dog in 2020 for the New River Valley Kennel Club.

The key, an obvious pun on the surname, has long been used as a symbol of and associated with the family surname which is pronounced “Key-See”.

The significance of the colours is more trivial than the significance of the charges, but they still bear importance to the armiger and his family; his father’s favourite colour is black and he always finds a way to incorporate it into everything he owns, from vehicles to bedsheets! Red is the armiger’s favourite colour, and he too always tries to find ways to incorporate it into his life in much the same way as his father. The “family” lion, or zodiac sign of Leo, has always been represented in the colour Gold and the family home is painted yellow, with burgundy shutters, doors, and porches.

Silver has always been the preferred choice of jewellery, with the armiger’s parents’ wedding bands being silver, as is the engagement ring of his fiancée, and the necklace he has worn since childhood. Silver is seen as a constant form of expression for the family.

Green too has been a constant, with two rooms in the armiger’s childhood home painted entirely green and, in his own home, the kitchen is also painted green. He is surrounded by green living on a plot of land of over fifteen shared acres in a bowl of trees within a small copse. To the front of the armiger’s house is nothing but forest that seems to go on forever.
