                                              Carman
The White Lion is the informal mascot of the armiger’s feral cat rescue organisation and is also a nod to the lion in the 3rd quarter of the arms of Hernán Cortés, granted to him in 1525 by the King of Spain for the conquest of Mexico. The sword reflects the armiger's prior service in the US Army and is fracted to refer to her service-related injuries in the line of duty. The cross in Gules makes reference to the Order of Knights Templar.

The crest reflects the ramparts and hearts seen in the quarters of other Cortez arms.

The motto,
Fortis Contra Adversis, translates as "strong against adversity" and is a paraphrase of one of the Knights Templar mottos.

Red and white are colours associated with Spain.
