The
Griffin, was chosen for
the crest as they are
known for guarding
treasure and priceless
possessions; it’s use is
consistent with the
popular Pickering family
motto, “Je Garde Bien”
(I Guard Well).
The
three gold fleur-de-lys
in the blue (Azure)
banner across the top of
the shield (position in
Chief) reflects the
Norman heritage and
influence on the
Pickering family line
throughout the
generations.
The
trident with its three
points refers to the
armiger’s direct family
history where there have
been multiple
generations of mariners
including the armiger.
The
Ship represents the
personal travels of the
armiger by sea.
The
motto “Viator Orbis”
means Travel the World
or World Traveller and
is indicative of the
past and continuing
global travels of the
armiger.
