The arm in armour
gauntleted and embowed
reflects the armiger’s
military service with
the United States Air
Force for over 33 years,
while the talbot alludes
to his Carmichael
ancestors and the
tradition of Appin as a
favoured royal hunting
location. The fess
symbolizes a girdle of
honour, relevant to both
a military and federal
service career. The hand
lamp alludes to both a
pursuit of knowledge by
the armiger through
education and his work
in the field of
intelligence for 20
years. The mascles
denote persuasiveness.
The crest denotes an
American heritage, with
the sword suggesting a
willingness to fight and
defend---characteristics
evidenced by the
armiger’s Michael,
Caperton, McCorkle and
Adkisson ancestors.

|
In
Gaelic, the family would
be referred to as Mhicheil
na h'Appunn . . . Michael
from Appin, and that is
how they prefer to think
of their lineage---hence
the Latin motto, "GENUS
EST GLORIA" or "My
Heritage is My Pride". |
