SCOTLAND

The Much Hon. William Jolly is Baron of Stobo in the county of Peeblesshire, Scotland; the caput of the barony being Stobo Castle.

Originally created for the 4th Earl of Morton in 1577, the barony is registered in the name of the armiger in the Scottish Barony Register (3/104-107, 4th October 2016). The armiger was admitted to the Convention of the Baronage of Scotland in November 2019.

The motto Beatus Ille derives from the opening line of Horace’s Second Epode: “Happy he who … tills his ancestral acre”. It is a motto that applies across all the Baron's heraldry in Scotland, England and Malta.

The Stobo Tartan (Scottish Register of Tartans Reg. No. 13335) is registered in the name of Henry FitzJoly and reserved for ceremonial use by Henry FitzJoly, his family and supporters. Designed by Kinloch Anderson, the sett incorporates colours from Henry FitzJoly's personal arms and those of his father. As members of the Morton of Douglas sept, Barons of Stobo also wear Black Douglas.
