The
arms combine
the Greig and
Fenton base
arms of the
armiger’s
parents. Greig
arms feature
variants of
three hands
Argent and a
bordure on a
Gules field.
The ancient
arms of Lord
John Fenton
who signed the
declaration of
Arbroath in
1320 were
Gules a bend
engrailed
Argent, these
arms were not
inherited and
became extinct
with his
passing.

The
armiger claims
no descent
from this Lord
Fenton's wider
family but
utilised the
ordinary of
these extinct
arms as well
as the field,
Gules shared
by both Fenton
and Greig
arms. The
engrailed bend
of Fenton and
the three
Grieg hands in
bend (Greig of
Ballingry)
fell naturally
together.
Despite
being a third
son, the
bordure is not
a mark of
cadency, but
an ordinary
along with the
three hands
implying a
Greig
achievement.
Without the
bordure as an
ordinary the
arms would be
ambiguous,
being possibly
Fenton with
hands as a
difference.
Eight mullets
Sable charge
the bordure,
the mullet
being the
minute
temporary
brisure of a
third son.
These mullets
are black to
reflect the
black raven
crest with
their quantity
distributing
well, both in
shield and
banner.
For crest the
armiger has a
raven rising
proper. The
name of the
armiger’s son
'Cormac' being
Gaelic for
'son of the
raven', it
holds a
crescent Gules
in the dexter
claw,
representing
the armiger’s
twin brother
as second
born.
