These
arms are of ancient
origin, recently
recorded (granted) with
a different crest in the
Lyon Register. The
original arms can be
traced to the armiger’s
first known ancestor
Georg Fuchs, b. between
1590 and 1600; the first
bearer of the arms is
unknown. The arms are
registered (with a
different crest) in the
"Herold Deutsche
Wappenrolle", Limburg,
Germany, Vol. 73, with
reference to Johann
Fuchs, reeve, b. 1641,
not necessarily the
first bearer. The first
proven bearer is Johann
Baptist Fuchs, b. 1853
(who left a signet ring
in his will). Arms first
recorded for a reeve or
bailiff named Fuchs in
1555 (Archive of the
Austrian Land of
Vorarlberg), direct
descent not proven.
The motto, "Peregrinus,
fidelis tamen",
translates as "A
foreigner, loyal
regardless", emphasising
the promise of fealty to
Scotland and its Monarch
by the bearer and his
family.
The baronial dignities
have been recorded in
the Scottish Barony
Register: Cockburn 4th
July 2008; Over Liberton
6th February 2009;
Hallrule 18th March
2009; Lordship and
Barony of Buncle and
Preston 16th September
2009. (The dignity of
Buncle and Preston is
both a Lordship and a
Barony.)
