The lion Argent
on a Purpure
field alludes,
in a reversed
way, to the
traditional arms
associated with
the surname
Silva. The lion
was the
armiger's
favourite animal
and football
club mascot. The
lion also
alludes to the
fearless
attitude for
which the late
armiger is
remembered by
his
grandchildren.
By contrast, the
rose alludes to
the countryside
life that the
armiger loved,
and the almost
forgotten family
story that he
used to tell his
daughter about
his own
grandfather
working as a
gardener in the
household of His
Most Faithful
Majesty King
Charles I of
Portugal and the
Algarve.
The clarion in
the crest
symbolizes the
armiger's love
for music,
especially
opera.
Fernando Augusto
da Silva was
born on January
14th, 1920, in
Lisbon and
married Maria de
Lourdes de Matos
Salvado Silva;
together they
had one
daughter, Isabel
Maria Salvado
Silva Pinto
Correia.
