The
field of the shield laid
out in azure and or/gold
(blue and yellow) is a
reference to the horizon
and to travel. The half
wheel refers to the arms
borne by the armiger’s
mother and is held by a
lion, referring both to
Africa, a strong
character and a military
career. The mountain
refers to the “Berg”
part of the armiger’s
surname. The lion
astride the mountain
indicates not only that
it is a mountain lion
but also lends the idea
that the armiger is much
travelled and one who is
not afraid of obstacles,
even those considered to
be impassable.
The
armiger, who is French
(Alsatian) by birth,
assumed the arms in the
Netherlands where he
presently resides. His
ancestors, both paternal
and maternal, are mostly
from the Alsace region
of France.
