The Arms of
                                                Professor David Daniel
                                                Ruddy

The armiger asked the Chief Herald of Ireland for a simple, canting, coat-of-arms; viz the ancient red rudder [a play on both the sound and the representation of colour of his name] on a background of the colours of St Andrew [having been a student at St Andrews, 1948-52].

Both of these symbols representing the armiger’s naval career as well as the seafaring activities of his ancestors on the West Coast. Donal Begley saw fit to add a chief with the two trefoils and the red Latin cross, it is presumed, for charitable works.
