The
stag's head in
the achievement
alludes to three
elements, the
first two being
the armiger’s
first names,
Xavier and
Jacques (James),
whose symbolic
animals are
deer. The third
element alludes
to the coat of
arms of the
Chief of Clan
Mackenzie viz:
Azure, a stag's
head cabossed
Or. The armiger
is a member of
the Clan
Mackenzie
(Scotland and
the UK).
The cross
crosslets fitchy
represent the
Rippon coat of
arms. The name
originates from
Yorkshire and
means "living
near a
cathedral".
Today, the
armiger is still
"near a
cathedral" as he
works in a
cathedral in
Paris.
The armiger's
family is of
French West
Indian origin
and the broken
chain on the
chevron
represents the
family's history
as slaves on the
islands of
Guadeloupe and
Marie Galante.
The griffon
heads represent
the Fairfort
(French: since
circa
1880)/Fairforth/Fairford
coat of arms.
The armiger was
particularly
inspired by his
grandfather, L.
Gerard E.
Fairfort, as
well as by his
grandmother,
Flora Osseux
(née Boëcasse),
embracing as
they did, all
the diverse
cultures and
ethnicities
which make up
his family tree.
The crest motto
Gang Faur Awa is
in Scots,
showing that he
also has Celtic
origins. In
English it
translates to
Going Far Away.
In addition to
evoking the
family's long
journey from
Africa, via Asia
and Europe, it
also describes
their present
day progression,
and corresponds
to the armiger's
preferred
interpretation
of "Going
Forward",
forging ahead in
life, as well as
in distance .
The armiger now
lives in Paris,
France.

The
Latin motto
Virtute et Fide
Lucet translates
into English as
Through Courage
and Faith,
Shine, and is,
in Scottish
tradition, a
response to that
of the Clan
Mackenzie Chief
which is Luceo
Non Uro - I
shine, not burn.
The armiger
would like to
thank Monsieur
Laurent Granier
for the creation
of this
achievement and
also Charles
Davidson, Esq.
FRICS SDA NDA
FRS Scot. for
his help with
the crest motto.
