The
design combines the arms
of the duchies linked to
the armiger: The ancient
Burgundy coat of arms
serve as the reference, as
the family name of the
armiger is Bourgogne, to
the name of the duchy. The
bend of Gules recalls the
duchy of Lorraine, where
the armiger was born.
Purpure was chosen as a
reference to ancient Rome
and the chess rooks to
symbolise patience and
reasoning.
A renowned scientist, the
armiger's coat of arms
includes symbols of
wisdom, patience and
reflexion. It is important
to know and understand the
past to construct the
future. To build a
sustainable future, as
indicated by the motto,
every action should be
performed by wisdom and
perseverance. Each action
should thus be performed
under the aegis of Athena,
goddess of wisdom,
symbolised by her owl on
the crest of the coat of
arms.
Considering the armiger's
roots and influences, the
coat of arms means that
unwavering perseverance
lies between the boldness
of the Dukes of Burgundy
and the wisdom of the
Roman Emperor Marcus
Aurelius.
