Dr. Antonio Salmeron Cabanas is a noted expert on Spanish heraldry, a renowned heraldic artist, and a member of the Society of Heraldic Arts. He is also an expert witness on heraldic matters for the Courts of Justice of the Kingdom of Spain.

The commissioning of these arms involved researching the appropriate heraldic symbols of place in respect of Mr. Larkin's life journey from Ballinasloe, via Dublin and London, to Alicante.

The inspiration for the design was drawn from a variety of sources, including the Arms of the Town of Ballinasloe, the armiger's hometown, which were granted by the Chief Herald of Ireland and the Arms of the city and community of Alicante, Spain. It was decided to create the Arms in the traditional Spanish style rather than the Irish style.

The Arms of the Town of Ballinasloe have several elements which refer to the history of the Town, its location on the River Suck, a tributary of the River Shannon, and as a terminus for the Grand Canal; its castle of the O Ceallaigh of Ui Mháine (Hy-Many) and, of course, the famous centuries-old, Ballinasloe Horse Fair.

The Arms of the O Ceallaigh, Gaelic rulers of Hy-Many where the O’Lorcain clan were Brehons (Gaelic Lawyers) to the O’Madaidhin clan, also contain the image of a triple-towered castle.

The Arms of the City of Alicante has an almost identical depiction of a triple-towered castle as the main element in its arms and, therefore, it was decided to link these elements in the arms for Mr. Larkin.

The wavy lines above represent the River Suck and River Shannon and the ones below represent the Mediterranean Sea.

The Spanish style was considered more fitting as Mr. Larkin's home is now in the Kingdom of Spain which has an enormously rich and centuries-old heraldic tradition with a culturally very distinctive symbolism and artistry.
