The
arms, an original design
based on a punning of
the Scottish name of
Laird, were first
assumed in November
1981, at New Castle,
Pennsylvania.
The Armiger (9th Cavalry
Regiment, United States
Army retired) is a
graduate of the Command
and General Staff
College with a Master’s
Degree in Military
Science MS. He is the
head of the family, a
retired Army Officer and
a Vietnam War Veteran
who came up through the
ranks. His awards
include the Combat
Infantryman's Badge,
Bronze Star and Purple
Heart. Currently he is a
“right of descent
member” of the Ancient
and Honorable Artillery
Company of
Massachusetts, est.
1638.
The armiger has long
been involved in the
research of his family’s
history and lineage and
is currently a member of

James Douglas Laird,
351st Bomber Group,
United States Army Air
Force, (born Bristow,
State of Oklahoma, 1917)
and his wife Marcia
Eileen daughter of Grant
Garfield Strenick and
his wife Myrtle Marian
Sanders. His father is
the second son of James
Edgar Laird, pastor of
the Church of Christ
(born Scotts Hill, State
of Tennessee, 1883) and
his wife Iva May,
daughter of Jacob Snyder
Higginbotham by his wife
Rose Ella Pruitt. His
grandfather is the
second son of William
Franklin Laird, Farmer
(born Graves County,
State of Kentucky, 1848)
and his wife Josephine
Elizabeth daughter of
James Russsell and his
wife Elizabeth Taylor.
His Great Grandfather is
the second son of James
Laird (born in the State
of North Carolina, 1820)
and his wife Winny.
These
arms are the exclusive
property of Major James
Douglas Laird, head of
his armorial house,
formerly of New Castle
in the State of
Pennsylvania, now
residing in Mesa in the
State of Arizona. The
right to use of the arms
is extended to all
lawfully begotten male
heirs of the said
armiger to the exclusion
of all others.
