Conferrals: H.M. Queen
Elizabeth II appointed
the armiger as
Commander of the Most
Venerable Order of St.
John, an order of
chivalry of the
British Monarchy,
which appointment was
published in the
London Gazette (No.
59148) on August 5,
2009. On November 4
2002, His Royal
Highness Prince Victor
Emmanuel of Savoy, son
of the late King
Umberto II of Italy
and Head of the Royal
House of Savoy,
appointed the armiger
as a knight in the
Order of Saints
Maurice and Lazarus, a
dynastic order of
chivalry of the Royal
House of Savoy.
The
male line of the
armiger's family is of
Scottish origin, from
the area of Fife and
Perthshire, Scotland.
The armiger's family
name is an anglicized
derivation of "Dunmore"
or "Dunsmore" and means
"great hill fortress".
Thus the Arms reflect a
fortified hill and the
three silver stars
represent the Clan
Murray which is one of
the dominant clans in
this region, to which
the armiger belongs and
which owes allegiance to
the Dukes of Atholl as
hereditary chiefs of the
Clan. The flag flying
from the castle with
three golden wheat
sheaves on a green
background reflects the
family's traditional
association with the
land and the
countryside. The ship
represents the armiger's
family's movement over
time within and service
to the British Empire.
The Tullibardine tartan
is one of the tartans
associated with the
family's Clan and has
been traditionally worn
by the male line of the
armiger's family. The
mantling is in the black
and gold colours which
are the traditional
livery colours used by
the armiger's family.
The armiger, Douglas
Warren Densmore, is the
Lord of the Manor of
Stratford St. Andrew and
is a Commander of the
Most Venerable Order of
St. John and a Knight of
the Order of Saints
Maurice and Lazarus. The
armiger is a 32 degree
mason and member of the
Scottish Rite. He is a
member of the Royal
Order of Scotland, the
Royal Over-Seas League
in London and the
English Speaking Union.
He has two sons: Andrew
FitzDouglas Densmore,
M.St.J., who is heir to
the Lordship of
Stratford St. Andrew,
and Bradley Wythe
Densmore.
