The family of Pescod alias Peskett (the modern spelling was adopted circa 1800) have been long settled in Hampshire and West Sussex.

The first of the family to attend Winchester College did so in 1495, son of Christopher Pescod whose Will was probated in 1510.

Hugh Peskett is Scottish Editor of Burke's Peerage and another descendant of this family (in the female line) is Cecil Humphery-Smith of the Institute of Genealogical and Heraldic Studies.
