The
armiger is a an
Australian Citizen
resident in the United
States where he is a
Professor of Music and
Chairman of the Division
of Strings at the
University of Texas at
Austin. Educated both in
Australia and the United
States he holds a
Bachelor of Music (Magna
Cum Laude) and a Master
of Music degree from the
University of Southern
California. His armorial
bearings deriving much
from little allude both
to his national origins,
and professional
activities as a
musician. Thus in the
shield can be seen eight
wavy bars collectively
representing the
heraldic colours of the
city of Sydney, the
armiger’s city of birth,
the waters of Sydney
Harbour itself, the
eight notes of the
octave in music, and the
fact the armiger now
pursues his career
overseas. Furthermore
the three piles
superimposed over the
water vividly represent
the Sydney Opera House
alluding to the site of
the armiger’s
professional musical
debut in his native
city.
On the crest again a
felicitous mixture of
Australian, musical and
foreign elements
co-exist. The Kookaburra
alludes to Australia and
the armiger’s great love
of it’s native birds as
well as being in memory
of his late mother, a
fine musician and great
lover of Australian
fauna and flora. The
Kookaburra holds in its
foot a palm frond of the
Sabal Palm species
native to Texas in the
USA where the armiger
now resides. Finally,
the crest is surrounded
by a circlet of Alto
Clefs representing the
musical clef used
exclusively by players
of the Viola, the chosen
instrument of the
armiger.

Like
the other symbols in the
achievement the motto
too reflects more than
one meaning. Omnia In
Tempore (All Things In
Time) is at once the
motto of a musician i.e.
all things (should be
played) in time and the
statement most true
about the armiger’s
life; that all things of
value do indeed come in
time.
