The
armiger descends
from Pierre
Corneille
d’Anville who,
in the year
1637, was
knighted by King
Louis XIII in
Paris. The
knighthood was
awarded to
d’Anville
because his son,
the writer
Pierre Corneille
d’Anville, had
published in
that same year
his famous ‘Le
Cid’. By giving
letters of
nobility to
Pierre Corneille
the Elder, the
son hence
forward was
regarded as born
noble. The title
of Chevalier was
carried by both
Pierre and his
brother Thomas
Corneille de
L’Isle a famed
playwright in
his own right.
With the
knighthood also
came a grant of
armorial
bearings [Azure,
on a fess Or
between three
mullets Argent
three lions’
heads erased
Gules] however,
it was felt that
the arms in the
original grant
were not
sufficiently
close to the
armiger’s family
as so a new
design was
thought to be
more
appropriate.
|
In
2012, after a
long
discussion
between the
armiger and
his siblings
and taking
into account
the direct
family of
children and
grand-children
numbering
thirty six in
total it was
decided to
create their
own coat of
arms dating
back to, and
honouring
their parents,
but hinting
back to their
ancestors by
incorporating
elements of
the original
coat of arms.
The armiger
and his family
received
design
assistance
from Pro
Heraldica in
Stuttgart.
The
arms are borne
by the
armiger,
