The colours are those of the grantee's ancestral arms recorded in d’Hozier’s L'Armorial général du Poitou (1697) and in Pétiet’s L’Armorial Poitevin (1911), and registered in L'Armorial de la Nouvelle-France as well as Luz’ L'Armorial de France et d'Europe. They are also those of New-France and of the Regroupement des Anciennes Familles, of which the family are titular members. The cross flory represents Christ, Our Lady and New-France. The alerions were adopted from the arms of St-Yves de Kermartin, patron of lawyers, and Godefroy de Bouillon, founder of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre --the grantee's profession and order. The motto is from the Chanson de Roland, in which Comte Gaultier's presence is recorded.
